QWERTY

QWERTY is a Danish artist initiative founded in 2007 and run by six visual artists brought together by a shared desire to explore new knowledge and artistic practices. We continuously examine working methods and organizational structures as alternatives to the established art scene. Without a permanent exhibition space, our platforms are shaped by each project and its context.

Our early work focused on exchange, consumerism, and the shifting definition of value. In recent years, our practice has expanded toward questions of parenthood, inheritance, upbringing, and contemporary male/female identity. Through projects such as QWERTY News, we explore how private roles and family life intersect with broader social and cultural structures.

Rather than producing object-based artworks, we work with relational aesthetics and engage directly with local and regional contexts. Our process is agile: we create frameworks that allow improvisation, audience negotiation, and local influence, meaning the final outcome is only known at the end of each project.

At Susak Expo 2026 we present QWERTY on the Beach—a daily program of performances, installations, concerts, and beach parties.

The project explores the beach as medium, metaphor, and fantasy of the easy, carefree life. The beach promises freedom and relaxation, yet it quickly becomes a site of conflict, noise, waste, and unexpected realities. It is both idyllic and uncomfortable—a place we escape to, retreat from, and inevitably return to.

Because sometimes, the sea and the vast openness of the beach lift us out of our everyday perspective and reveal something larger and more hopeful about the world.

Participating artists at Susak: Indigo Richards, Anders Qvist Nielsen, Camilla Gaugler, and Mikkel Larris (Morten Tillitz and Jens Andersen are participating from the BEACH at home in Denmark)
